The Zika virus is spreading rapidly across Hawaii and is making some pregnant women more vulnerable to infection.
David Ige is calling for an emergency statewide quarantine for pregnant women and parents of children.
Ige also announced he will introduce legislation that would mandate condoms for all school-age students.
Hawaii’s first case of the Zika epidemic in the state was reported in January.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Hawaii is at “a critical juncture” in terms of the spread of the virus, which is spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
